​​​Are there any items I can't bring into the Capitol or onto the grounds?​
Can I carry a firearm into the Capitol?
  • Concealed Carry is allowed inside the State Capitol by permit holders, except in areas posted as not being allowed. Public open carry is not allowed inside the building. 
I'm a Law Enforcement Officer. Can I open carry while on duty in the building?
  • Yes
Can I open carry on the Capitol grounds?
  • ​Yes. Open carry is allowed.
Is the Capitol open on holidays?
  • ​Yes. The Capitol is open 365 days a year. On holidays, the Capitol has modified hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Can I park around the Capitol Square when visiting the Capitol?
  • ​Yes.  There are one-hour parking stalls on North Carroll Street, East Main Street, ​South Pinckney Street, and West Mifflin Street. You can see a map for these locations on our Parking Information page.
Is the Capitol Handicapped Accessible?
  • Yes
    • Parking: 3 stalls on East Washington Avenue at the base of the grand stairs.
    • Ramps: Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Wisconsin Avenue, East Washington Avenue, and West Washington Avenue entrances. 
    • Entrance: Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Wisconsin Avenue, East Washington Avenue, and West Washington Ave entrances are automated. 
    • Lactation Room: Tour desk staff will register visitors who need to use the Lactation Room & provide a temporary access pass to Room B4N.
When can I visit the outdoor observation deck?
  • ​The outdoor observation deck is open daily from mid-April through December.​ 
How can I join or schedule a tour of the Capitol?
Can choirs and bands perform in the Capitol? If yes, when and where?
  • Amplified noise is allowed from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. and after 4:30 p.m. inside the Capitol First Floor Rotunda.​
  • ​For outdoor performances, amplified noise is not limited during the day.​
Can a drone be flown at the Capitol?
  • ​As long as FAA regulations are followed, someone can fly a drone outside the Capitol, but the drone is not allowed to take off or land on the Capitol Square.
